Seated Twist Stretch (Straight Arm)

A flexibility exercise involving seated trunk rotation to stretch the obliques and lower back.

How to do it

  1. Sit upright with legs extended forward.
  2. Cross your left leg over your right if desired for more stretch.
  3. Extend your right arm straight behind you for support.
  4. Twist your torso toward your right, using the opposite arm for leverage.
  5. Hold, then repeat to the other side.

Form cues

  • Keep back straight
  • Twist gently
  • Look over shoulder
  • Breathe deeply

Common mistakes

  • Slouching the back
  • Over-twisting
  • Holding breath
