Lying Straight Leg Raise
An exercise to isolate the hip flexors and lower abdominals from a supine position.
Secondary muscles
How to do it
- Lie flat on your back, arms at sides.
- Extend legs fully, feet together.
- Lift legs straight up to vertical.
- Pause briefly at the top.
- Lower legs down slowly but don’t touch floor.
Form cues
- Keep lower back flat
- Control leg movement
- Squeeze abs
- Don’t let heels touch

- Arching lower back
- Using momentum
- Separation of legs
Breathing
Exhale as you lift legs, inhale as you lower.
