Cable Close Grip Lat Pulldown

A cable exercise using a close grip to target the latissimus dorsi and supporting back muscles.

How to do it

  1. Attach a V-bar or close grip handle to the cable machine.
  2. Sit down and secure your thighs under the pads.
  3. Grasp the handle with a neutral grip, hands parallel.
  4. Pull the handle down to the top of your chest, keeping torso vertical.
  5. Slowly return the handle to the top without locking elbows.

Form cues

  • Lead with the elbows
  • Keep chest up
  • Do not swing back
  • Squeeze lats at bottom

Common mistakes

  • Leaning back excessively
  • Using momentum
  • Not fully engaging lats
  • Rounding shoulders forward

Breathing

Exhale as you pull down, inhale as you return up.
