Standing Hip Flexor and Abdominal Stretch

A standing stretch focusing on opening the hips and lengthening the abdominal muscles by reaching overhead and leaning back.

How to do it

  1. Stand upright with feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Lift arms overhead, palms facing forward.
  3. Arch back gently, lifting chest and looking upward.
  4. Shift hips forward slightly to increase hip flexor stretch.
  5. Hold and breathe for desired duration.

Form cues

  • Engage glutes
  • Stretch upwards before leaning back
  • Don’t force neck back
  • Keep knees soft

Common mistakes

  • Overarching lower back
  • Locking knees
  • Failing to engage core

Breathing

Inhale before arching; exhale as you hold the stretch.
